History

Apple launched iCloud service on October 12, 2011. While launching iCloud, it was partly hosted on Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure. Then, on June 6, 2011, Steve Jobs announced that iCloud would replace MobileMe due to its failure. Later, on October 12, 2011, iCloud was released after the discontinuation of MobileMe. Soon, with the release of iCloud, it received 20 million users. However, some users criticized it for its data syncing. Then, Apple focused on this issue in iOS 7 and OSX Mavericks. 

 

In 2016, Apple released Azure with the Google Cloud platform. Lessin, a Media company published that Apple stores 8 million TB of data on Google’s Cloud. Apple has its own centers for data storage including Maiden, North Carolina. As a consequence, the iCloud service was also made available on Windows 10 in 2010 via the Microsoft Store. 

 

Moving forward, Apple also released iCloud + service. These new services included Custom Email Domain, Private Relay, and Hide My Email. It further includes vast storage for cameras. As of now, iCloud has about 850 million people all over the world, according to an estimation.
