IMAP & POP Related Issues

Your AOL email account may have protocol-related problems such as IMAP and POP-related issues. Due to this error, people can’t send and receive emails and access their accounts freely. But the question is, why does this problem arise? Well, there are unlimited factors that may give birth to protocol-related issues, such as incorrect IMAP & POP settings, security program-related errors, incorrect login details, etc. In order to correct this issue, one should check their AOL server status, verify their server, and turn on the 2FA.

Causes of IMAP and POP-Related Issues in AOL

You know that protocol-related issues occur due to numerous factors; you must know all those reasons or causes.

  • Invalid login credentials

  • Incorrect protocol and server settings

  • Mail server issues and maintenance

  • To configure errors or slight changes in email client settings

Solution 1: Verify the AOL Server Status and Confirm That Your Internet Connection Is Stable

In the first step, you should check the status of your AOL server and whether the internet connection is stable or not.

  1. In the first step, launch an internet browser and visit the AOL official website.

  2. Then, verify the status of your server by hitting the Service Status link at the bottom of the page.

  3. After that, you’ll see your server’s status, and you’ll have to wait for it to run again.

  4. When the server status is visible, you must check your internet connection by navigating to another site.

  5. Verify if the website is opening without struggle, access your email account, and delete all the browser cache and cookies.

  6. In the next step, turn off the firewall or antivirus program for a short time and check again.

  7. If the issue persists, you must contact your AOL customer service.

Solution 2: Check Your Server and Port Settings for AOL Account

With this method, you should check the server and port settings for your account. Look at the steps to see it.

  1. Initially, sign in to your email account and move on to the Options menu.

  2. Then, choose the Mail Settings and hit the Accounts section.

  3. Now, tap on your account and hit the Account Info option.

  4. Under the Accounts Info > Account Settings, verify the incoming mail server settings for AOL.

  5. Then, ensure that the incoming server is set to imap.aol.com, and the port number should be 993 for IMAP and 995 for POP.

  6. Moving forward, verify the outgoing mail server settings and make sure that the outgoing server is set to smtp.aol.com and your port number is set to 465 for SSL/587 for TLS.

  7. On the next screen, you save the changes and restart your email client.

  8. At last, you must try accessing your account to check if the protocol issue has been resolved.

Solution 3: Turn off Antivirus or Firewall if They Are Causing Issue

If your device has some third-party software or antivirus running, you must turn it off to resolve your issue.

  1. In the initial step, go to the Start button on your Windows computer.

  2. Then, locate the Windows Security in the search bar.

  3. Now, click on the Virus & Threat Protection option.

  4. After that, choose Manage Settings under the Virus & Threat Protection Settings option.

  5. Also, turn off the real-time protection to turn off the antivirus program.

  6. In the next screen, go to the Control Panel in the search bar and launch it.

  7. Choose the System and Security option and then select the Windows Defender Firewall from the list.

  8. Now, hit the Turn Windows Defender Firewall option on or off.

  9. In the next step, turn off the Public network settings and private network settings to turn off the firewall program.

  10. Finally, access your account and check if the issue has been resolved.

Solution 4: Turn on the SSL Authentication for AOL Account

You must enable the SSL verification on your account to rectify the protocol issue.

  1. In the beginning, sign in to your account and move on to the Options menu.

  2. Then, go to the Mail Settings and choose the Accounts option.

  3. After that, choose your email account and hit the Edit button.

  4. Now, tick the box that says Use SSL under the Incoming Mail Server option.

  5. After that, do the same thing under the Outgoing Mail Server option.
