BTinternet is part of the British Telecom (BT) Group, which is the oldest communications company in the world. Sir William Fothergill Cooke, George Parker Bidder, and Joseph Lewis Ricardo funded the company in 1846. This company was the first to create a nationwide communications network. In Britain, many telegraph companies, such as the Electric Telegraph Company, London District Telegraph Company, and British and Irish Magnetic Telegraph Company, were working. The Telegraph Act 868 took charge of the company, which led to the formation of GPO, General Post Office Postal Telegraphs Department.
