Solution 1: Check email program settings

  3. For the outgoing mail server, ensure it is set to smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
  4. Check that the incoming server port is set to 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP.
  5. Now, ensure that the outgoing server port is set to 465.
  6. Then, select SSL/TLS for both incoming and outgoing servers.
  7. Input your username and password for your BT Email account.
  8. Save the settings and try to send and receive an email to check if it is working correctly.

Solution 2: Use the correct server type (IMAP/POP) as required.

  1. Open your email program and go to the account settings.
  2. Look for the Mail Server type and check whether it is set to IMAP or POP.
  3. After that, determine which server type best suits your needs.
  4. If you need to switch server types, update your account settings accordingly.

Solution 3: Temporarily disable antivirus/firewall to check email access

  1. First, click on the Start menu and go to the Control Panel.
  2. Next, select System and Security and then Windows Firewall.
  3. Then, tap on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  4. Select Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) for both Private network settings and Public network settings.
  5. After that, press the OK button to save the changes.
  6. Disable any antivirus software temporarily by opening the program and selecting Disable or Turn Off from the options.
  7. Open your email program and see if it can access your account without any issues.
  8. Once verified that the antivirus or firewall is not the issue, remember to re-enable them to ensure your computer's security.

Solution 4: Enable SMTP authentication to avoid sending errors

  1. Open your email program and go to its settings or options.
  2. Then, look for the Outgoing Server or SMTP settings and select it.
  3. Ensure the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option is checked or ticked.
  4. Select the option that says, Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  5. Now, save the changes and exit the settings or options menu.
  6. Try sending an email to test if the SMTP authentication is working correctly.
